Improving family medicine with patient-reported data

The problem

Patient-reported health and care experience data has great potential to improve efficiencies in processes and practices, yet remains underutilized. For family physicians who often receive little support in running their clinics, this information can be extremely useful when making organizational decisions.

The solution

This initiative aims to develop key infrastructure for using patient-reported data on outcomes and experiences in primary care. This includes a digital platform for collecting, analyzing and visualizing data, and a digital learning environment to help practitioners use this data to improve efficiencies in professional processes and practices in their clinics.

“This is a unique opportunity to leverage patient-reported health and care experience data to support Canada’s family physicians and interdisciplinary teams in planning primary care clinical services. This innovative initiative will empower family physicians and interdisciplinary teams to adapt their services and interventions based on patient perspectives.”

The innovators

The Medical Research Centre Chair in Optimal Professional Practices in Primary Care aims to improve primary care services by developing professional and interprofessional practices and knowledge transfer to meet the needs of patients, health professionals and clinics. It is funded by the Université de Sherbrooke and led by Professor Marie-Eve Poitras, who will run this project in collaboration with researchers, practitioners and patients.
